Swami Vivekananda, original name Narendranath Datta was a famous Indian Hindu Monk. He was the man behind the foundation of the Ramakrishna Mission. Vivekananda established the Ramakrishna Math and the Ramakrishna Mission in 1897. Swami & other disciples spent hours in practicing meditation and religious austerities every day.
Swami is well-known for his speech which began with the golden words: –
“Sisters and Brothers of America….”
In these lines, he introduced Hinduism at the Parliament of the World’s Religions in Chicago in 1893.
The great Hindu monk has conducted hundreds of public & private lectures and classes, propagating tenets of Hindu philosophy in the United States, England, and Europe. In India, this significant figure is considered a patriotic saint. His birthday is celebrated as National Youth Day.
